Yoga Mats

1. What makes our mats ecologically friendly?

A lot of things.First, our mats are designed for durability and basically last a lifetime (or two), so they don't end up in landfills like typical, worn-out yoga mats. Also, all Jade mats are produced without the use of PVC or synthesized rubbers. In addition, Manduka mats are sustainable and eco-friendly.

What else?Planting a tree or supporting Off the Mat, Into the World is about as ecologically friendly as you can get.

So we consider it an environmentally conscious choice to buy a Go Green Yoga Mat.

2. I am just a beginner, what mat is best for me?

Please click here for our beginner link package.

3. What is my yoga mat made of?

All of our mats are free from PVC, phthalates, latex, chloride, and glue however, depending on which mat you've purchased, composition will vary. That said, most of our mats are made entirely of non-Amazon harvested natural rubber.

4.How do I get my mat to lie flat after it’s been rolled up?

If you store your mat rolled up, try rolling it up so the top surface is to the outside. This keeps the corners of the mat flat when practicing.

5.When will the slight rubber smell fade?

The top surface, prior to use, has a thin film which wears off after several sessions. Like most mats, there is a ''breaking in" period where the rubber "smell" diminishes and the surface becomes more tractable.

6.Which side of the Black mat do I use?

The Black Mat has a top and a bottom surface unlike other mats. The top has a fabric-like finish and a label. The bottom has a dot texture.

7.Why is the eKO so heavy?

Manduka has engineered the eKO to be durable and provide a high performance surface. It is designed to cushion the joints and body and last long. The heavy duty rubber needed for this type of performance, however, weighs a little more.

8.How long is the break-in period for mats?

New yoga mats take time to 'Break in'. The more you use your mat, the more non-slip it becomes. The best way to wear in your mat is to do lots of yoga practice. There's nothing like an old worn mat for giving the best grip possible!

You can also place the mat somewhere you will walk over it, in bare feet. Washing your mat can also help to speed up the process.

9. What is the difference between The Black Mat® PRO and the PROLite™ Mat?

The Manduka PROLite™ is about half the weight of the Manduka Black Mat® Pro. There is a slight difference in cushioning (3/16" instead of 1/4") and it’s a little narrower, but this is essentially the same awesome mat! The PROLite™ mat won't slip or bunch up while you practice your "plank pose" like other thinner mats. Although, if you are taller or heavier than average, do very vigorous yoga workouts, or have particularly sensitive joints, you might prefer the Manduka Black Mat® Pro, particularly as it comes in an extra long style. If you want the same quality as the Black Mat® Pro, but without the weight, get the PROLite™!

Another option in using the PROLite™ mat is to lay a cotton yoga rug on top of it. The cotton absorbs sweat and can be washed easily. This way your mat will last even longer and you get a more natural feel against the skin during practice. Cotton rugs are the traditional support for yoga, particularly ashtanga, and this mat and rug combination is often recommended by fine teachers as the best way to get the best of both worlds.

10.What about latex allergies with rubber mats?

Manduka mats are latex-free.

Jade mats are 99% latex free, as they are produced from a rubber tree, there may be trace amounts of latex proteins in the mats so we recommend persons with latex allergies avoid contact with our mats.

11. How do you clean the yoga mat?

Any non-solvent type household cleaner, i.e. "Simple Green", and a damp cloth handles most situations. DO NOT PUT IN WASHING MACHINE!
